About the Author
Mark B. Borg, Jr., Ph.D. is a community psychologist and psychoanalyst, founding partner of The Community Consulting Group, and a supervisor of psychotherapy at the William Alanson White Institute. He has written extensively about the intersection of psychoanalysis and community crisis intervention. He is in private practice in New York City. Dr. Borg attended graduate school at the California School of Professional Psychology, where he earned both his MA and PhD in a dual-track program in clinical and community psychology. While there, Dr. Borg served on a four-year community empowerment project that was developed in South Central Los Angeles in the wake of the 1992 riots. Also at that time, he conducted individual and group psychotherapy at the AIDS Services Foundation in Orange County, California.

Grant H. Brenner, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist in private practice, specializing in treating mood and anxiety disorders and the complex problems that may arise in adulthood from childhood trauma and loss. He completed medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and holds Certificates in Psychoanalysis and in Organizational Psychodynamics from the William Alanson White Institute. Dr. Brenner serves on the board of the nonprofit organization Disaster Psychiatry Outreach. He is a faculty member of the Mount Sinai Hospital and Director of the Trauma Service of the William Alanson White Institute. He is an editor of Creating Spiritual and Psychological Resilience: Integrating Care in Disaster Relief Work, and the author of several papers and book chapters related to disaster response.

Daniel Berry, RN, MHA has practiced as a Registered Nurse in New York City since 1987. He worked for almost two decades in community based programs and private care for HIV/AIDS and substance abuse populations. He is currently the Assistant Director of Nursing for Risk Management at a public hospital serving homeless and undocumented victims of street violence, drug addiction, and severe traumatic injuries. His work history includes employment at two of New York City’s major medical centers and as a visiting nurse in the homes of some of the city’s most privileged households as well as some of its most underprivileged housing projects.

Beautifully and respectfully engages the reader on a fully human level. In this carefully organized book the authors first present the science behind the development of interpersonal behaviors.This is interspersed with heartfelt stories of real people who have found themselves in irrelationships and their courageous journeys to a new way of loving and intimacy. Finally, we are given clear steps that can be taken to break old "song and dances" and to develop fulfilling relationships with the important people in our lives.
Intelligent, accessible and filled with useful information to achieve real healing, change and growth.

Great read - a great guide on how to achieve true intimacy!

This book is a great guide into dissecting what goes wrong from childhood to adulthood, how it affects our relationships as adults and how to become aware, accept and fix these problems. Additionally it gives advice on how to strengthen acceptance and repair the pitfalls that plague many toxic relationships. Finally, it teaches us how to see our relationship as more of a special friendship so you and your significant other can comfortably share everyday moments and interests with each other. Great read.

It is easily understood with the guitar tabs as well as the music notes presented in parallel with each other in the book. The audio cd with playing tips are helpful, but I would have preferred it to be video clips presenting these techniques for the user to visually see what Ed do could help a guitar player extensively more than a audio clip. In general I would like to see more books like this from Ed Gerhard, one doesn't only learn hoe to play his compositions but you also practice fingerstyle techniques which improves you overall as a guitar player.

Consider your goals before buying

I learned Gerhard's version of "The Water is Wide" from an old Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine article, and was thrilled to discover this book. But here's what I found out when it arrived: (a) The CD that accompanies the book has almost no music on it. It is mostly a tutorial to help you with certain snarky technical issues in the individual pieces. Nothing wrong with that, but not helpful if you haven't heard the pieces and would like to know what you're working on in advance. (b) A couple of the pieces are written for use with a slide. (c) Most of the pieces require an unusual tuning. Dropped D tuning is not a big deal, but most of the others are more complicated than that. I wanted this music for performance purposes, and having to stop and tune extensively between pieces makes their use extremely inconvenient, unless you have two equivalent guitars and somebody to tune for you in between. If you know all this and still want the book, it's easy to read and contains both tablature and music notation. Gerhard's work is terrific. But if I had it to do over, I would have passed, based on the above limitations.

An Excellent Inside View of Ed Gerhard's Music

This book has been transcribed to perfection, trying to capture as much as possible of Ed's style. I was able to follow along with Ed's recording, helping to clear up the wall of sound he creates with one guitar. Of course with most charts it is almost impossible to write out all of Ed's inflections, but the main text is solid.The tunings are right on the mark and the pieces written for the Weissenborn really defines the beauty of the instrument.
The reader/musician can't go wrong with this purchase, I highly endorse this songbook.

About the Author
Ilkay Zihni Chirali was born in 1946 in Lemba (Çirali) Gazi Baf, Cyprus. He grew up in a village by the sea where people, animals and plants were dependent upon each other. They shared the same simplicity and their environment was always treated with conviction, respect and love. He eventually left Cyprus to pursue his higher education, first in Turkey and then in Sweden and England. In 1982 he emigrated to Australia, where he studied Chinese Medicine with Professor Wong Lun and Master Danial Wong. Ilkay qualified as an acupuncturist in Melbourne, Australia, where he opened his first Acupuncture and Stress Therapy Clinic. He returned to England in 1987 and now runs a clinic in Bexleyheath, Kent, where he treats children as well as adults.
Ilkay’s wide-ranging studies have brought him expertise in acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine, clinical hypnotherapy, the Lusher Personality Test, paediatric acupuncture and western medicine pathology. He has studied further in Nanjing, China, at the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and First Affiliated Hospital in the Internal Medicine, Dermatology and Gynaecology departments.
Ilkay has practiced cupping from an early age, gaining his first experience of the technique when employing the traditional Turkish folklore remedy for colds. He has been organizing regular cupping workshops both in the UK and overseas since 1988 and a BBC TV programme where he appeared as an “Expert”. To date, he has given over 60 public lectures and a BBC World Service Radio talk on the subject of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Cupping Therapy.

Kindle version is incomplete

Excellent print content on the kindle version. However, that content is meant to go hand in hand with digital content they talk about but will only include with the paper version. So be careful purchasing the kindle version as you won't get the whole thing. I spoke with customer service about the situation as well as trying to contact the publisher but all was to no avail. I find it disappointing that this shortage is not made clear up front, especially since the kindle version is almost the same cost but there is no printing or storing or shipping costs.

VERY good book, thorough on history & all types of Cupping. My only wish is that there were more color photos instead of so many black & white. Otherwise a wonderful book to accompany anyone's training or curiosity on the subject.
