About the Author
Cyrus Lakdawala is an International Master, a former National Open and American Open Champion, and a six-time State Champion. He has been teaching chess for over 30 years, and coaches some of the top junior players in the US.

Not bad, but....

This books will attract you by its title, but beware that it only covers lines will ...c6. In fact must of the theory of the Qd6 scandinavian rounds about ...a6 lines. The author also does not point this, nor in the back cover nor the introduction. He does not say why he has choose that lines and avoid other. If your are a fun of more active lines with ....a6 this book is of little value to you (maybe only first deviations).
I bought the book while thinking it covers the whole Qd6 lines and it is not.

Good chess masters have a deeper understanding in some positions ...

One of the reasons why we buy chess books on openings instead of relying on databases and chess engines is that chess masters can dissect the realm of lore and explain you the basics without mesmerizing you with a maze of variations and ideas. Good chess masters have a deeper understanding in some positions that surpasses the advices computers give. But it takes a a great writer to do the above in a pleasant to read text. Cyrus Lakdawala nailed it in this book. He keeps it simple, delivers accurate knowledge beyond what teh computer says and does it in a fluid text, full of metaphors and analogies. It is very rare for such a small book to offer valuable advice for players rated 2200+ while teaching the basics of an opening to a club player, but i discovered that is exactly what Cyrus accomplished here.

The Scandinavian Bible

The Scandinavian Bible. If you only buy one book on the Scandinavian, this is the book to buy. Lakdawala thoroughly covers all the c6 variations of the opening, plus replies to alternative, early, nonstandard moves by White. My only complaint is, as I have stated before, his inane analogies. Make no mistake about it, this is the only current book you will need to play the Scandinavian. His enthusiasm about this opening is infectious. You might even say that he is too optimistic about the opening. Anyhow, It's an excellent, very thorough, treatment of this opening.
